Tanah Rata

The most popular town in the Cameron Highlands. Tanah Rata is located at an altitude of 1440 meters (4724 feet) above sea level and it's the only town the Cameron Highlands with banks & ATMs,bus station & taxi station and police station. Home to inspiring views of the surrounding landscape and colonial style architecture. Nestled within this small town are numerous English styled accommodation options.

Not at all sure where "English style" comes into the equation. Indian influence is high. Tanah Rata is good for eating, organising a bus at the very good little bus station or taking the opportunity to book a tour. We went on a tour for 5 people costing 45 Myr each (April 2018) comprising the Mossy Forest - a marvellous area along a boardwalk right up in the mist shrouded tops. Our guide was genuinely fascinated by the area, and inspired us. Sadly this part of a half day tour lasted 40 minutes. Next- the Butterfly Farm (waste of time, no explanations or info about the butterflies or what they were doing with them AND we had to pay extra to get in), Strawberry plantation (another confusing waste of time with basically nothing to see except dirty polytunnels and a few thousand strawberry plants) a tea factory ( interesting enough with a shop selling BOH tea). We all liked the town, and the lunch at Kumars Restaurant was Myr 108 for 5 persons which we all though a bargain.
