Talk:Valencia (region)

Region? And regions?[edit]

I think things got a bit messed up at some point.

I don't understand why the name was reversed back to Valencia (region). This is extremly inaccurate, as it can be confused with the Valencia (province) and even the city plus its surroundings (like the Albufera).

Other thing is about the two regions that the Valencian Community is supposed to be divided into. The coast is divided into Costa del Azahar and Costa Blanca, but there are also regions not related with the coast at all. Yes, the beach is where most tourists go, but there are a bunch of other places existing too! From the visitor point of view its more common to divide it into the provinces rather than in "Costa Blanca, Costa del Azahar and Inner Region". And we would need new cathegory and pages for Wikitravel.

Knowing that Wikitravel already has pages for the provinces of Spain I would substitute the regions for the provinces; it's how most tourists prepare itineraries, and by the way it will fix some wrong redirections (as Valencia (province) redirecting to Costa del Azahar, when they are two different things).

Maybe those topics have been already discussed and/or rejected and I just haven't found the reason (I'm new here and I don't want to make a mess), so I won't change anything yet, hoping that someone gives his opinion about it.

Great suggestions, Adribin! It looks like you're an expert here so it would be great if you could help me here with organizing Spain regions. Please let me know if I understand everything correctly:

We would have Spain and its regions such as Eastern Spain. In Eastern Spain we would have 2 Provinces: Mauricia and Valencia. In Valencia province we would have 3 regions: Costa del Azahar, Costa Blanca and Inner Region (needs to be created). If this structure is correct I will put the proper names and delete redirects that don't make sense.

Is there anything else that would have to be changed for other regions in Spain?
Thank you for your suggestions and for willingness to make Wikitravel more accurate! Warm regards, IBAlex (talk) 21:08, 13 May 2014 (EDT)

Here the big problem would be that in Spain the smaller divisions (provinces) have the same name than the biggest city on them, and with Valencia, the biggest division (autonomous community) also shares the same name, making it quite confusing at first and even a source for political uprooting between the capital and Alicante and Castellon.

My idea would be:

Eastern Spain, with two Regions (as the term province is officially used by the administration for the smaller divisions and could make it confusing): Murcia (region) and Valencia (region) (or Valencian Community, as it would be more clear to identify with the proper territory of this page).

In Valencia (region) I would suggest the three administrative provinces as division: Castellon (province), Valencia (province) and Alicante (province). The Costa del Azahar and Costa Blanca would be perfect as "Other destinations", below the cities. Currently Alicante (province) redirects to Costa Blanca, and Valencia (province) redirects to Costa del Azahar; as said thats not true, the coast is just a part, and in fact Costa del Azahar also includes the coastline of Castellon.

Thank you for your answer, I hope we can find a practical solution. I check often Wikitravel, if I can add something to help others perfect.

Thank you for organizing the articles and explaining everything! I see that you also deleted the wrong redirects. Is there anything else I could help here? Looking forward to seeing more of your edits! Warm regards, IBAlex (talk) 21:02, 14 May 2014 (EDT)
