Deletions of private house listings[edit]

Hello,

I have put two listings of private houses with pool for sleeping, but it was deleted by GiulioC as he said it was touting from agency. Both houses is booking directly through owner with no agencies involved. So how can I prove it and have it on page? I dont understand why it was deleted when there are Valamar sleeping ads which is biggest Istrian tourist agency and that is not touting?! KMance (talk) 06:08, 3 February 2015 (EST)KMance

Hello, as I wrote here I thought your edits were a form of touting from an agency. If that's the only way to contact the villas then I'd give it a go. My only other concern is that the villas were not exactly in Poreč: in that case it would be fine to give correct and exhaustive information about their location. As for the Valamar listings, I did some reasearch but it seems that the only way to get in touch with those places is through Valamar's website. GiulioC (talk) 04:27, 4 February 2015 (EST)
Hello, Thank you on quick answer. In local point of view that is considered something like suburb of Poreč because if you need anything (food, drinks, gas, entertainment) you will need to go from there to Poreč. If you bring back villas I will edit them to make sure everyone know how far is from city center.
I was also looking to expand Poreč page, because there is to little information on one of most famous Croatian touristic destination KMance (talk) 05:38, 5 February 2015 (EST)
Hello there! We'd really appreciate your help in expanding the page! I'm adding them back so you can edit the listings with other info. GiulioC (talk) 05:53, 5 February 2015 (EST)

Listings to delete?[edit]

Following the above discussion, there are many listings in the Sleep section that are incomplete (no address/contact details) and therefore should be removed. I am still not entirely sure about the Villas but since KMance seems to be an expert of the town and willing to expand it I suggest we wait for his opinion. Any other ideas about what to do? If I can make some general points:
  1. Where a Wikitraveller is actively adding to and developing the article, people without local knowledge should be cautions about parachuting in and abruptly deleting listings which may be under active research since this can cause extra work for the development editor and may cause them to lose interest in contributing at all. Obviously, where a few weeks have gone by without correction/adequate info being added then it's open season.
  2. I do not necessarily say that this is the case in Poreč, but there are many parts of the world without adequate addressing systems. That is just one reason that I tend NOT to use the listings format where both latitude and longitude fields have been broken for many years in the sense that this important information is completely hidden from our readers. Since an increasing number of travellers travel with a GPS equipped device (eg a smartphone) it really is a pity that all useful technical development on this Wiki seemed to have ceased years ago.
  3. Address makes crystal clear that you should not include the city where the listing is in an article about that city and that postal codes may be used for listings in those countries where they offer useful additional precision {currently Argentina (only 8 character CPA or Código Postal Argentino, Argentine Postal Code), Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal and the UK} - so they should not be used in Croatia articles.
  4. Historically, it has been considered permissible to include nearby listings where there is no alternative guide they should better be included in (if one is ever created, they can then be moved).
One thing that is good about the current version is that there is pricing information for each listing and most are nicely formatted. --Babaying balikbayan (talk) 19:50, 5 February 2015 (EST)
