City District

Help! I could use a reference for a peculiar feature of Pittsburgh neighborhood streets. Because our builders were as lawless as our robber-barons, sometimes people built in the middle of a street. That is one reason for our crazy little alleys, sometimes only a block long, and which provide such problems for drivers. I remember the speaker said that she had read about this feature in a Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania publication. Anyone? 13:36, 23 January 2008 (EST)
