Talk:New Orleans/French Quarter

From Wikitravel
Jump to: navigation, search

So, I've tried to bring this page in line with the Wikitravel:district article template, but there's still a lot to do. Almost all the listings need to reformatted to conform with Wikitravel:restaurant listings, Wikitravel:attraction listings, and Wikitravel:bar listings. --Evan 15:49, 29 May 2004 (EDT)

This article is so out of date as to be completely useless. Some of the places listed haven't been open since Katrina. I'll make edits as I can but since 85% of the recommendations here so far have led to places that are out of business, I suggest starting from scratch. --Davidc 02:17, 16 August 2008 (EDT)

From a travel-writing update perspective, Katrina is a hellish problem (for some other perspectives as well...). I think some quick deletions may indeed be in order, although I would think that would be less true for the French Quarter than for much of the city. Be sure to check the most prominent/interesting listings before removing them. Calling/checking online is usually the fastest way to check. Good luck working on this—looks like a tough, but really useful project. --Peter Talk 21:12, 16 August 2008 (EDT)

    • Certainly no where near "85%". Substantial updates have been made, both adding and subtracting places. Take a look at the article history and see the changes since before the disaster. I'm a local who gets to the Quarter fairly regularly and have changed a number of things, and others have been changed by others. I'm not much up on hotels (unless I happen to see one I walk or drive by has closed) so some of that may be out of date, but a quick skim of everything else in the article looks like at least 90% verifiably still there as of earlier this month. The "start from scratch" reccomendation seems inappropriate hyperbole. Feel free to improve. Anything that is wrong, please remove or correct. I've put back Donnas-- perhaps you're right that they're gone; I'm out of town for a couple days and can't check right now, but I see no indication of that on the web nor have I heard anything, and should Donna's shut down for good it would be pretty big news in the New Orleans jazz community. (Perhaps they were closed for vacation when you went by?) Cheers, -- Infrogmation 18:29, 18 August 2008 (EDT)
      • I drove by Donna's today. Sure enough, a sign on the door notes they're closed for vacation for August. (That can happen with small independently run businesses anywhere; not Katrina related. Sorry you missed them.) Cheers, -- Infrogmation 20:00, 21 August 2008 (EDT)
