Region names[edit]

Are the most common name really "Mississippi Gulf Coast" and "Mississippi Capital-River"? I'm not as sure about Capital-River, but I've always heard the coast referred to as just the "Gulf Coast", which for our purposes would get the name "Gulf Coast (Mississippi)". -- Ryan 21:24, 12 July 2006 (EDT)

To be honest, I find the recent fashion of using "Generic Name (Location)" for region names both unintuitive and awkward to link to, so I avoid it whenever possible. But "Gulf Coast (Mississippi)" wouldn't be as bad as all the horribly-named "North (Somewhere)" articles that are popping up (just for the sake of looking cool in the breadcrumbs), so I wouldn't object if you want to rename it. - Todd VerBeek 21:44, 12 July 2006 (EDT)
I'm also not a fan of the "East (Foo)" article names, mostly because they're boring and the more common name is usually "East Foo". In the case of the Gulf Coast, the normal naming standard would be "Gulf Coast", and a disambiguator is needed since there is more than one, which gives "Gulf Coast (Mississippi)". I'll update that one, and leave any other changes to those who know the area better. -- Ryan 23:50, 12 July 2006 (EDT)
