Talk:Efteling

Hmm, I'm not sure if this qualifies under Wikitravel:What's an article?. Maybe it would be better off as an attraction in the Kaatsheuvel guide? I don't know the park or the town so I thought I'd ask first! Majnoona 21:28, 16 July 2006 (EDT)

The same question occurred to me, so I did a bit of research, particularly http://www.efteling.com/ From what I could tell (the park maps are a bit... cartoony) the Van Der Disney Efteling hotel provides on-site lodging, so it passes the "sleep there" test. While "largest theme park in the Netherlands" might not be a particularly difficult contest to win, it appears to be a genuine "destination" in the vernacular sense, with people coming from around BeNeLux just to visit the park. But it's hard to tell whether it is "in" Kaatsheuvel in the sense that Tivoli is "in" Copenhagen (easily surrounded, in the city center), or in the sense that Disney World is "in" Orlando (in name only)... a question which could tip the scales for one handling or the other. - Todd VerBeek 22:03, 16 July 2006 (EDT)
I think that Todd has it right - it's comparable to articles about the Disney resorts. There's indeed on-side lodging available. Also it isn't practically "in" Kaatsheuvel - that's a small village. The difference with e.g. Tivoli is that one who visits Copenhagen could consider Tivoli one of the attractions, while there's virtually no tourist visiting Kaatsheuvel; if you're in the Benelux there's a good chance of you going to Efteling on its own merit.
It's actually large not only for Dutch standards but also in the European theme park context, with about three million visitors yearly. In land size, it's about 20% larger than Disneyland Paris.

Open year round[edit]

De Efteling is now open the year round (all days), maybe someone could put this in the text with the right style-rules in mind. Furthermore the Pegasus was replaced by Joris en de Draak an new (racer-)coaster.
