Talk:Beaches(Los Angeles)

I'm really not liking this Beaches(Place) thing. Are we going to have Beaches(Ko Samui) and Beaches (Maine) and Mountains(Switerland) too? Why can't this be Los Angeles/Beaches (ie a district) or just have Los Angeles (Beachy District Name) and then link to it from a list of goo beaches in the LA area? Majnoona

So, I think you're under the mistaken assumption that the beaches near Los Angeles are all part of the city of Los Angeles. Some are; most are their own cities. I think the disconnect we're having is that Ron's using Los Angeles for the whole Los Angeles Basin (HEY... that might be a good name for the region!), while we're thinking of it as the city itself. The really crappy part is that Los Angeles is this totally octopus city -- it has little parts running all over Southern California. Some places that people think of as a "real" city are really just parts of Los Angeles! -- Evan 12:16, 11 Nov 2003 (PST)

Umm, I really need to re familiarize myself with the conventions and current geographic breakdowns. Ron 11:46, 11 Nov 2003 (PST)

Let's try this: why don't we try to break down the geographical limits and regions within with a work page, say Talk:Southern California/Hierarchy? That way, we can work this stuff out, and then start making all the articles. Sound good? -- Evan 11:54, 11 Nov 2003 (PST)
Sorry Ron, this is the real trickey part of doing a travel guide. I'm in Library school right now and geographical cataloging is a real pain! In case you havent seen this stuff there is the Wikitravel:Manual of style and Wikitravel:Geographical hierarchy pages. If you're interested, you might want to take a look at the talk pages for those as well so you can see how we got to where we are. In anycase, hope it doesn't scare you off! Majnoona
Hey, amiga! Do you want to hack on Talk:Southern California/Hierarchy before doing all the articles? This is complicated, and I've got a feeling that your and my knowledge of Southern California is kind of hazy at this point. -- Evan 12:12, 11 Nov 2003 (PST)
