Sylhet Division is a region in Bangladesh.
During the Pakistan period Sylhet division was a district under the same name and was part of Chittagong Division then as one of four divisions of East Pakistan.
Bengali is the most widely spoken language, although many people speak English in the larger towns and cities. Sylheti is a related, but distinct language from Bengali and is also widely spoken in the Sylhet Division.
Shah Jalal is a saint of Bengal mainly in the area of Sylhet. Jalal's name is associated with the Muslim conquest of historic Bengal, for which he is given the most credit. He was buried at Sylhet. Shahjalal International Airport, Bangladesh's main airport is named in Honour of this saint.
