The small and typical balinese town is quite near the sea, where you can see different ceremonies and relax and swim. There are many temples opened for the tourists, but the real experience is to see them "in action": that means, when there is a tempel festival "odalan" or a different one. In the town you find actually festivals or ceremonies all the time… there is wedding, tempelfest, cremation, different small tempelfests, procession… But also great Gamelan Ensembles con be heard at night, when they rehearse or during one of teh many performances.

  • Pura Puseh Batuan Temple, Jalan Raya Batuan (South Ubud (5km)). An ancient structure dated to the 11th century, embellished with intricate stone carvings. It's in the northern part of the village, 200m (620 ft) off the main road. The temple also has an inscription that testifies to the date of founding of Batuan in 1022 AD. The temple underwent restoration in 1992. It's a five-tiered gateway tower, clearly influenced by Indian religious architecture. Its icons and decorations, however, are typically Balinese in style. Notable depictions include a Bhoma head overlooking the main gateway. (-8.5812664,115.2745368) edit
