Janjanbureh is a city in Upriver Gambia.

  • The Senegambian stone circles - it is thought they were erected about the 8th century, to mark grave sites. There are about 1,000 circles. They lie 22km northwest of Lamin Koto, on the north bank just across from Janjanbureh. There are also some across the border in Senegal. They were declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2006.

There are four places to stay at Janjanburgh

Top of the range is the Bird Safari Lodge, a short boat ride from the main jetty.

If you are on a budget any of the other three are perfectly acceptable. There are two located on the north bank which offer quiet surroundings. Take the ferry or hire a boatman to paddle you across.
