Estonia is a tiny Eastern European country on the shores of the Baltic sea. The country used to be a part of the [[Soviet Union]], until gaining independence in
1994 during the dissolution of the USSR. The last Russian troops left the country in 1994, but Russian influence can still be seen throughout the country as more then 25% of Estonians are native Russian speakers. Visitors can experience an ex-Soviet occupied country that is now part of the European Union. Traces of the Soviet era are still there to be seen — e.g. [[Paldiski]], a deserted Soviet army base that was once off-limits to Estonians themselves, can easily be visited on a day trip from the capital, Tallinn.
