It opened it's doors in 1994 as Nicaragua's first eco-lodge. Casa Iguana's mammoth 30 acres sit in front of what Fodor's has called "the finest snorkeling reefs in the Caribbean" (circa 2001 edition). There are two private coves and a long stretch of white coral sand beach. Casitas are painted in a collage of Caribbean colors and are constructed to allow the trade winds to pass right through each casita. The beds are comfortable, in-room safes are provided, and the restaurant is probably one of the best in the country, for both location and cuisine. 2 meals a day. Breakfast , lunch and dinner (7PM, family style, reserve in advance). They've got drinkable well water & have recycling bins. Prices are a bit steep, however, but they're the largest employer on the island, have the nicest grounds and more services. The manager usually meets the ferry at the port to greet arriving guests (owner Mary Burke, lives 2000 miles away in Chicago). Mastercard and Visa accepted.</sleep>
