Shwebo Township is a township of Shwebo District in the Sagaing Region of Burma (Myanmar). It is located on the plains between the Mu River and the Ayeyarwady River. The ancient palace of King Alaungpaya is being excavated there.Its administrative seat is the city of Shwebo.
Up to 1752, Shwebo was a village, called Moksobo of about 300 houses. It lies near the site of the ancient Pyu city-state of Hanlin.On 29 February 1752, the chief of the village Aung Zeya,who also assumed the royal title of Alaungpaya, founded the Konbaung Dynasty to resist the upcoming invasion of lower Burma-based Hanthawaddy forces.Over the next eight years, Alaungpaya led the reunification of Burma with Shwebo as his capital.Shwebo lost its status as capital after Alaungpaya's death in 1760.
There are highway express buses from Yagon to Shwebo.
There are railways from Mandalay to Shwebo.You can get Shwebo under four hours.
You can also take taxi from Mandalay to Shwedbo.If you take taxi,the price is a bit high.From Mandalay Station to Shwebo,it takes about 1hr 36min.
A trishaw or motorbike ride from either the bus or train station to the center costs around 1000ks.
Hotel staff may be able to arrange informal bicycle hire.
Shwebo Aung Myay(Victory land)
Wherever you go in Myanmar,you'll find hawkers selling thanakha,the sandalwood-like logs that are ground to a paste and smeared on the skin as sunblock.Shwebo's thanakha is considered the country's sweetest-smelling and forms the subject of a famous folk song,so if you want a gift to delight guesthouse grandmas elsewhere in Myanmar,you won't do better.It's sold on the southern approach cloister to Shwe Daza Paya.

There is not much recommended restaurants in Shwebo.Some restaurants that are highly recommended both for locals and foreigners are Eden Culinary Garden and Shwe Paing.
Eden Culinary Garden:It has a pleasant spacious garden setting with fine menues and opens from 6am to 9am.The price range for dishes are K2000-4000.You can also have Myanmar draught beer for 800ks a cup.
Shwe Paing:An airy,neighbourhood Chinese joint with a Burmese flavour to the generous dishes which come with soup and salad.It is located on the main drag throughout town,but there is no English sign or menu.The opening time is from 6am to 9am.Main dishes'price are K1500-4000.
