The main language spoken is Spanish, but many speak English as well. The actual natives from the island speak "patua", which is a mix of English, Spanish, and French.
Bus is the main form of transportation on the island. It is cheap and convenient. Most buses connect the main city of San Andres with other parts of the island. Also there are many places to rent everything from cars, to motorcycles, to bikes.
San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina are a perfect sport in the colombian caribbean to explore culture, food and the scenic beauty, reason why it is one of those places chosen by National Geographic to experience geotourism.
Scuba Diving is amazing here, as is snorkeling. There are many places that offer jet skis, kayaks, wind surfing, kite surfing, horseback riding, submarine tours and many other options. There are also many people that come here mainly for the great duty free shopping and cheaper electronics.
You can drink cold fresh coconut water while enjoying the sea view in a native kiosk at Bengay. Bengay Beach is a small, beautiful beach named for an island friend who's committed to caring for the beach. Here you can find some small kiosks where you can enjoy a soda or fresh coconut water.
Blue Coral Restaurant is an open air restaurant and bar in Agua Dulce, next to Cabañas Sonny.
Cafe Studio open its doors in 1996, where there was really no one offering authentic typical island food. Now, it became a food signature in the island. You can not miss it, for dessert ask for the Capuccino Pie.
San Andres is perfectly safe Caribbean island to visit, that is many many miles away from some of the problems found on the mainland.
