Located 35 km north-est of Bordeaux, Saint Emilion stands magnificently on top of the hill overlooking the Dordogne valley. The town is an incredible open-air museum with medieval ambience and its bars, restaurants, wine shops, etc. The most surprising remains are doubtless its underground monuments: a unique monilithic church, more than 70 hectares of underground quarries.
From Bordeaux, you can easily get to Saint Emilion by Train. The train takes about 40 - 45mins, around €9 one way (as at Nov 2013) and the station is about 1km from the town centre. There are also infrequent bus (bus 302) travel from Quniconces and drops you just outside the town, but takes about 1.5hrs.
