Saffron Walden has excellent transport links situated just off the M11 motorway linking London and Cambridge, as well as being close to Stansted Airport. It is also served by Audley End railway station which is 2 miles from the town itself.
Many bus services serve Saffron Walden from various destinations and the town is small in size making it easy to get around. However the town centre has a one-way system which can be confusing and tricky to navigate if driving round it for the first time.
The attractions listed above are worth visiting and Saffron Walden has a large park just west of the town centre as well as more park land near Swan Meadow car park.
Saffron Walden town centre is fairly basic and small with a few chain stores and small specialist shops.
Saffron Walden has quite a few nice restaurants and takeaways dotted around the town, but the place most recommended is the Courtyard tearoom which is owned by Wilkin and Son (famous for Tiptree jam).
Saffron Walden is a very safe town to visit and spend time in during the day, but as with any town visitors should not become too complacent and take the usual precautions to ensure their visit is a pleasant and enjoyable one.
