The town and the nearby villages that make up Ranilug Municipality are predominantly Serb populated. Many of the locals speak English and few Russian or German. The town is frequently used as a base for travelers heading to nearby Novo Brdo castle or Draganac Monastery.
Buses from Gjilan heading toward Kamenice, Shiparnise, Hogosht, or Bujanovac will pass by Ranilug.
There are some superb hiking trails in the mountains just behind Ranilug. During the warmer months many locals have picnics in some of the meadows in the mountains.
Caffe Club Happy Hour turns into a nightclub every Friday night. In the summer months live music is hosted in a courtyard behind the cafe, while an upstairs room is used in the winter months.
Restoran Beli Dvor located one block to the left at the main crossroad at the center of town, serves some very good traditional regional food often sourced from local area.
Caffe Club Ćure lit. Turkey's Cafe is located right on the main road entering the town on the left just before the main crossroad. Popular with the younger crowd and serving everything from deserts, coffee, and alcohol.
