Punta Carnero is a beach located in the Salinas County, a 10 minutes drive from Salinas (Ecuador). Its name, “Ram Point” in English, stems from the rocky headland located at the southeast end of the beach. The beach extends for approximately 1.6 miles (2.57 kilometers) and is relatively wide, with white to gray sand, medium waves and a prevalent inland breeze.
Punta Carnero has warm water temperatures, averaging 24 degrees Celsius (75 degrees Fahrenheit). It is one of the most popular holiday destinations on the Ecuadorian coast because of the fine beaches and steady weather all year round. Punta Carnero has great appeal. A wide swath of sand topped by low vegetation, spectacular waves, beautiful sunsets, a wonderful breeze. Punta Carnero also has great potential. It is near the resort of Salinas, near the airport, near the mall but at the same time is far enough away from everything for the enjoyment of the extraordinary natural landscape to be more intimate and intense.
This beach is relatively separate from Salinas and La Libertad, turn onto a road about 3.5 miles right on the border between the cantons above detour commonly called Punta Carnero. Arriving by road is straight to the beach to the right of Mar Grande and left the Punta Carnero that extends into the rocks, where the cliffs above them are some buildings highlighting the Hotel Punta Carnero. Following the road along the beach in a southeasterly direction, after passing the rocks, are shrimp and finally the people of Ancon Anconcito.

Punta Carnero has been chosen several times to be the venue of surf competitions not only on a national level but also on an international level. The sea here is a little rough; however, the sunsets are spectacular, and many surfers love to embrace the challenge. The Punta Carnero Beach is not rocky and has fine sand for all the 2,500 meters. The sun is very strong and SPF 50 sunscreen is recommended.
Whale watching and sighting of humpback whales during their mating season from June to October is an amazing experience for anyone. It is also a unique experience to hear their songs, which can last up to 20 minutes. There are many boats for hire that specialize in whale-watching tours with expert guides. The waters off the coast of the Punta Carnero Beach in Ecuador are a National Marine Sanctuary.
Fresh seafood is the specialty of the area. In the central area of the beach you can find kitchens where you can taste the ceviche, salads and seafood rice.
Salinas (Ecuador) is a ten-minute drive from Punta Carnero and has many places in the evening that offers a very diverse night life and fits every taste and budget. Malecon Street is a popular destination for tourists where there are a lot of artesanias making jewelry and lots of South American Artisan crafts. Salinas offers a variety of bars and clubs that are located all around the city. A little further from Salinas, around a 20 minutes drive is the "El Paseo Shopping Center".
Punta Carnero is very nice and is in the process of major development. The best places for sleeping are located in Salinas, a ten minute drive from the Punta Carnero Surfing Beach.
