Ploče is a town situated on the Adriatic coast just north of the Neretva River Delta in Dubrovnik-Neretva County; it has a population of approximately 6,500.
Ploče is a notable seaport. The most important feature of the town is its natural position in the valley of the Neretva River, which connects the central areas of neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina with the Adriatic Sea. The town is situated approximately halfway between Split and Dubrovnik on the road along the Adriatic coast.
It is also worth mentioning that the Bacina Lakes are nearby, located along the "branches" of the mountain of Biokovo.
