Playa del Inglés is a popular resort in the southern half of Gran Canaria.

Playa Del Inglés is a purpose-built resort for tourists across the world, mainly from Europe. Massive amounts of tourists come to the resort year-round, especially in summer and winter. The resort is also part of Maspalomas, a municipality and resort home to the sand dunes (Dunas De Maspalomas) and its self-named beach. Playa Del Inglés, or in English, Englishman's Beach was made suitable for tourists during the 60s-70s, and still remains a popular choice for a whole range of generations and groups.

Every local speaks a dialect of Spanish, known as Canarian. Canarian is generally the same as Spanish, with different pronunciations which can be a hassle to tourists staying for a long-term period. One of the most distinct features is the dropping of the 's' at the end of a phrase or word. For example, the locals would say 'gracias' as gracia. Regardless, all locals will understand Spanish. The vast majority of locals will understand English and German. French and Russian are also widely spoken as well.

- Puerto de Las Palmas ([]) is the major port of the island. Fishing, commercial, passenger and sports boats operate here. Not only was it the first port serving Canary Islands, but the first port in the mid-Atlantic. In 2007, it served almost 100,000 passengers.

Get around[edit]

For those on a package holiday or those flying with a tour operator, coach transfers are an option for those heading to and from the airport.

In other cases, the whole island (including the airport) is served by the bus company Global ([2]) and a wide array of taxis. There are much more buses and taxis in the resort itself.
