Panpet village is the village where you can see and enjoy the vibe of the Kayan Community who are also known as Padaung People with long necks. It is one of the few villages in Myanmar where you can feel the authentic experience of a tribe.
It is a remote place but still worth to travel. People are friendly. You can buy local souvenirs like Kayan Bracelets and Necklaces, weaved textiles by Kayan People and carving wooden statues. It had been restricted to visit there because of the conflict between Mynamar Military and local tribe, and it was a black zone for tourists. Recently, government allows to visit there again. But you still have to take care by yourself a bit.
It is located in the Kayan Hills of the Kayah State, Myanmar. You can go there by driving 1.5 hours from Loikaw City. Also, you can visit the Monywa Market from Demawso and take the walking trip. It may be little bit tired. But the green paddy fields besides and warmly local people from the Padaung village are making the trip worth going. Moreover, you can visit Ngwe Taung dam and take 45minutes drive to the village.
When you take a short hiking trip, you must have to go to viewpoint to see the panoramic view of nearby mountains. You can also see numerous paddy fields and five surrounding villages of Panpet village.
In the village, tourists can visit the home of local villagers. You can take the short hiking trip. You can visit the monument of the village which honor the village clan, an animist bird totem and a guardian spirit cave. You can also visit Artisan trail.
Since it is just a local community with low population there are almost no restaurants to serve for you. However, a very few local restaurants can serve you with local dishes which are made up of vegetables but still delicious. Perhaps, you can sometimes have the chance to taste the authentic Kayan Sausage which is very famous in Myanmar. You can also drink rice wine.
There is no place to sleep at night for tourist. You have to go back to Loikaw City to stay at night at hotel
