Naryan-Mar is the capital of Nenetsia, located on the Pechorin River. It is the largest town in Nenetsia and serves as a "hub" for the surrounding area as well as a principal river port, sea port, and airport. The population as of the 2010 Census is 21,658, up from 2002, which was at 18,611.

By road[edit]

An ice road from Haryaga is open from December until April. A standard road connects Haryaga to Usinsk. The drive from Ukhta is generally 16 and a half hours.

By boat[edit]

When the Pechora River is not frozen (mid-July to mid-October), passenger ships operate between Pechora, in the Komi Republic and Naryan Mar.

By plane[edit]

Daily flights from Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Arkhangelsk.

Get around[edit]

Naryan-Mar may be the largest town in Nenetsia, but that just is not that big—all that there is to see can be seen easily on foot within an hour or two.
