First settled by the Lenni-Lenape Native American Tribe Mount laurel has a strong and proud history dating back to the 1400’s. While not officially being settled until the early 17th century by Dutch settlers the town is very proud of their Native American Roots. Even today locals still claim to find evidence of the Lenape tribe on their properties. The most prominent of the settlers families was the Evan’s family whose descendants still reside in Mount Laurel and surrounding areas to this day. While the town has gone through several names over the couple hundred years like “site of the mount” and “Mount Pray” they all revolved around the towns large Hill. The early 19th century was when Mount laurel township really began to take off with several small villages and factories popping up along the Rancocas river. Today the town is mainly known for its countless corporate centers, headquarters and close location to Philadelphia.

By car[edit]

With almost every major highway running through Mount Laurel there are a variety of options to choose from. The list of highway’s include Route 73, Route 38, Route 70, 295, The New Jersey Turnpike, and the Garden State Expressway.

By Bus[edit]

The town features a Greyhound station and a New Jersey Transit bus.

By Train[edit]

While the town does not feature a train station it is a close drive or bus ride from the Hamilton station and Cherry Hill station for New Jersey Transit. For transportation into Philly the Patco line out of Haddonfield and Collingswood is closests. For any Amtrak trains Trenton or Philadelphia train stations are also only a short commute away.

By Plane[edit]

The largest and closest airport to Mount Laurel would be the Philadelphia airport. However, there are several smaller options that include the Trenton airport, the Flying W, and the Atlantic City airport. Each is only a short drive, bus or train ride away.

By car[edit]

Car is the most recommend mode of transportation in Mount Laurel. The town is very large and spread out which makes walking unreasonable, especially since many majors highways run through the center of the town.

By bus[edit]

While New Jersey Transit offers a bus route that goes around the town it often involves changing several busses to get where you want to go. If you can avoid it don’t take the train. Driving is best suited for this bustling suburb.

While there may not be a ton of things to do in Mount Laurel. The neighboring towns offer shopping malls, movie theaters, pottery painting, bowling and more. Many people also tend to spend most of their time in Philadelphia. See Get out for more information.

Laurel Acres Park: 1045 S Church St, Mt Laurel, NJ 08054 Laurel Acres park is a great place for everyone from families to groups of friends. The park features two playgrounds, a running track, a hill that is great for sledding or a work out, a pond for fishing, baseball fields, dog area, and pavilions that are a great place to sit down and eat. The town occasionally holds events at the park like festivals and fairs.

Funplex: 3320-24 New Jersey 38, Mt. Laurel, NJ 08054, (856) 273 9666 The funplex is a local indoor/ outdoor amusement park featuring activities like rides, laser tag, bumper cars, arcade games, bowling and a waterpark. This place is good for families and friends of all ages.

CoCo key water park resort: 915 NJ-73, Mt Laurel, NJ 08054, (856) 234 7300 This indoor waterpark is a good place to take kids it features plenty of water activities to keep them entertained for hours.

Paws Farm: 1105 Hainesport Mt Laurel Rd, Mt Laurel, NJ 08054, (856) 778 8795 Paws farm is a local nature center that features classes and activities featuring animals and history about the area. It’s a good place take young children to learn about and meet new animals.

ISC Mount Laurel: 1 Hovtech Blvd, Mt Laurel, NJ 08054, (856) 273 2828 Mostly populated with the towns youth this indoor sports center is a middle schooler’s dream come true. The place features an arcade, skating rink, indoor soccer and more. Take the kids for a day of family fun!

Paulsdale Farm: 128 Hooton Rd, Mount Laurel, NJ 08054, (856) 231 1885 Home of the Women’s rights activist Alice Paul the once family farm is now a local museum that honors the legacy of significant women in American history.

Rancocas woods village of shops: 208 Creek Rd, Mt Laurel, NJ 08054 Located in the heart of rancocas valley this quaint little shopping area features local craftsman shops and cafe’s. If you’re looking for local souvenirs or unique pieces of artwork for the home Rancocas woods is definitely the place to go.

Centerton Square: 12 Centerton Rd, Mt Laurel, NJ 08054 Featuring stores like Wegmans, Target, TJmaxx, Sports Authority, Five below, Panera, Starbucks and more there is something for everyone in this very diverse shopping center.

East Gate Square Shopping Centers: Eastgate Dr, Mt Laurel, NJ 08054 This shopping center is undoubtedly the largest collection of shopping centers in South Jersey including up to seven different individual shopping centers while also steps away from the Moorestown Mall. In this small few mile radius you can find almost every major store you could possibly want to visit excluding Target and Walmart.

While Mount Laurel has countless fast food and chain restaurants. This list includes only a few of the more less well known chains and mainly locally owned restaurants. With no real bars in town many locals populated the restaurants at night to get a drink out or travel to Marlton or Philadelphia. There are also countless restaurants in neighboring towns. Prospectors Steakhouse and Saloon: 3050 NJ-38, Mt Laurel, NJ 08054 (856) 235-1121 This country western restaurant has an affordable menu, country line dancing and concerts on the weekends. It’s a good place for either the whole family or a night out with a significant other or friends.

Tres Yan and Wau: 3131 NJ-38, Mt Laurel, NJ 08054 (856) 608-8888 This upscale Asian cuisine restaurant is a great place for a romantic dinner or adult dinner party. However, while kids are welcome there is no kids menu so keeping the party adults only is probably best.

Angelo's:878 Union Mill Rd, Mt Laurel, NJ 08054 (856) 778-7222 A great little casual italian restaurant featuring New York style pizza. While most people order take out or delivery you can sit down and eat there as well.

Sage Diner: 1170 NJ-73, Mt Laurel, NJ 08054(856) 727-0770 Visiting a Jersey Diner is a must for visitors of the state. The Sage Diner is very much your typical local diner, you can get breakfast all day and the menu features everything from omelets to sandwiches to pasta to ribs. Open till 1 or 2 am the diner is a local favorite to grab a bite all hours of the day.

Bertucci's:1220 Nixon Dr, Mt Laurel, NJ 08054 (856) 273-0400 A great Italian chain that is good for a nice affordable sit down meal without breaking the bank. This place is a good option for all groups of people.

On the Border Mexican Grill: 4160 Church Rd., Mt Laurel, NJ 08054 (856) 437-5360 A great Mexican chain the restaurant probably has the best sit down affordable mexican food in town.

Cosi: 4301 Dearborn Cir, Mt Laurel, NJ 08054 (856) 608-0800 A cafe style chain the restaurant features sandwiches, soups, and salads. However, they are most famous for their s’mores desserts that feature and actual fire to toast your marshmallows. This can be great treat for kids, friends, and couples.

Primo Hoagies: 3111 NJ-38, Mt Laurel, NJ 08054(856) 235-4200 Want to try an authentic South Jersey Hoagie? Primo’s is the place to go. They feature everything your stomach could desire in a sandwich.

Shanghai Express Chinese Food: 300 E Greentree Rd # 15, Mount Laurel, NJ 08054 (856) 983-2495 Shanghai Express is a great take out chinese food restaurant featuring all of the classics and some of their own creations as well. With a vast menu and delivery this place is a great option for a night in.

Miller’s Ale house: 554 Fellowship Rd, Mt Laurel, NJ 08054 (856) 722-5690 During the day and up until about eight o’clock at night the restaurant is a great place to take family for a quick affordable bite to eat. However, starting at about nine o’clock the restaurant turns into more of a bar scene featuring an outdoor fire pit, plenty of tv’s, live music and two fully stocked bars.

Being only a short drive to Philadelphia and populated with countless cooperate centers Mount Laurel has become a hub for Hotels. While the town includes over 20 hotels, mostly large name chains, like Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, Marriot, and Hilton. Here are a few smaller chains and locally owned hotels.

ALoft: 558 Fellowship Rd, Mt Laurel, NJ 08054 (856) 234-1880 Located right off of Route 73 and near major highways like 295 and the New Jersey Turnpike this modern hotel features a bar, billiards table, wifi, fitness center, indoor pool, and a business center and more. The hotel is also dog friendly and offers dog beds, treats and toys for your furry travel companion.

The knights inn: 1104 NJ-73, Mt Laurel, NJ 08054 (856) 778-3500 Close to 295 this budget hotel features amenities like a hot tub, wifi, meeting rooms, and a continental breakfast.

Red Roof Inn: 603 Fellowship Rd, Mt Laurel, NJ 08054 (800) 733-7663 This low budget hotel located near 295 allows up to one pet per room and kids under 17 to stay free if traveling with an adult family member.

Homewood Suites: 1422 Nixon Dr, Mt Laurel, NJ 08054 (856) 222-9001 Located close to the Moorestown Mall this hotel features fully equipped kitchens, wifi, free breakfast daily, complimentary light dinner and drinks Monday thru Thursday, grocery shopping center, business center, convenience store, sport court, fitness room and indoor pool. Great for business trips or extended stays this hotel offers all the amenities of a hotel with the feel of being at home.

Surrounded by many bustling city suburbs there are so many other things to do in neighboring towns you won’t even know you’re crossing a town line by just crossing a street. Popular surrounding towns include Cherry Hill, Moorestown, Medford, Haddonfield, and Marlton.

Cherry Hill Mall: 2000 New Jersey 38, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002 (856) 662-7440 This very large mall has every store you could want and a ton of restaurants that range from fast food to a nice steakhouse. Major retailers include Macy’s, Nordstrom, JCPenney, Old Navy, Apple store, H&M, Payless, and countless more. While the food court hosts a variety of options most people opt for a more sit down lunch in one of the malls many restaurants such as California Pizza kitchen, Seasons 52, and Bahama breeze. The Mall is also across the street from a large movie theater and surrounded by several shopping centers.

Moorestown Mall: 400 NJ-38, Moorestown, NJ 08057 (856) 231-4444 This smaller and recently renovated mall features a large food court, brand new movie theater. Including major retailers like Macy’s, Lord and Taylor, Boscov’s and Sears.
