Leishan is a small town in the Guizhou Province partly inhabited by Miou people who can be seen all round town. It has had a Government makeover, but mostly this consists of pretty pavements and additions to the fronts of buildings along the main streets.
Frequent buses arrive from Kaili.
From the bus station on Yong Le Lu, the river is in front of you (behind buildings). Turn left (roughtly north) to eateries & the main square, with bridges over at either end. Turn right (roughtly south) for hotels & cheap eateries and, a little further along, a Wind & Rain bridge over the river. There is a small hill in the north of the town, where the river bends west.
In the evening walk to the main square (on the same side of the river as the bus station) to see Chinese people exercising to music and browse the night stalls for shoes, children's clothes and plastic tat.
Wander the streets and find small markets.
Plenty of places on the same street as the bus station serve noodle soup and/or rice with veg/meat at reasonable prices. if you like hotpot cross the river from the main sqaure and walk alongside the river opposite the square to find many places serving it on the pavement.
Not all hotels can accept foreigners.
Shunxin Hotel, Yong Le Lu (no English name except on the towels!) 08553339966/189855452178. 3 mins walk from the bus station: turn right, stay on the bus station side, cross 2 roads (second one Zhaoyang Rd, which crosses the river if you turn left), then cross small stream & find a hotel with 4 red Chinese characters on a yellow vertical street sign. 100Y (June 2016) for double, ensuite with ac & TV.
