Kuortane is a municipality of Southern Ostrobothnia, 40 km from Seinäjoki.
Soile Yli- Mäyry’s exhibition in Kuortane opens its gates every summer. Though she comes from a small Finnish village, Soile Yli- Mäyry has conquered the world with her dazzling paintings, winning the hearts of fans and collectors all over Europe, Asia, Middle- East, South America and USA. Her works of art are bursting with color and emotion, skillfully combining symbolist, expressionistic and surrealistic influences. Her paintings pulsate with signs, floating shapes, primitive child-like figures, like some indecipherable messages scrawled on cave walls thousands of years ago, waiting to be interpreted. Her works demand not so much a rational or precise interpretation as an evocation of existential situations, hidden feelings and aspirations. Apparently, there is no narrative logic, no coherent tale, but rather fluid, juxtaposed layers of color that create unstable figures and structures. The dynamic philosophy of her paintings was also transposed to her glass sculptures, which are a perfect combination of color, transparency and brilliance. The art gallery in Kuortane is open every day from 12 to 5 pm from late May to late August, so don’t hesitate to pay a visit and enjoy the outburst of color, symbols and art.
