Grand-Bassam is a city in Lagunes.
Grand-Bassam is a city in Côte d'Ivoire, lying east of Abidjan. It was the French colonial capital city from 1893 until 1896, when the administration was transferred to Bingerville after a bout of yellow fever. The city remained a key seaport until the growth of Abidjan from the 1930s.
This museum is in the former French governor's home. Check out the building to see the various rooms (including the escape room) and imagine life for the colonists. Far more important, thought, are the various wonderful costumes from around Cote d'Ivoire. Also various dioramas of regional village housing are on display. No signs are in English and it would be nearly impossible to fully understand and appreciate the meaning of each costume without one of the many excellent guides on site.
