Gorkha district lies in western region of Nepal. It become part of Nepal when King Prithvi Narayan Shah of Gorkha (also known as Gurkha) unified the country 250 years ago. The District headquarters is Gorkha Bazaar.
Gorkha headquarter is connected by all weather road from Kathmandu (4 hours), Birjung (10 hours), Bhairahawa/Sunauli(10 hours) and Pokhara (3 hours). Buses are generally crowded. Micro buses are fast and relatively comfortable. Taxi can be hired from Kathmandu or Pokhara to Gorkha. Alternatively, a traveler can take any bus that goes via Abu Khaireni. You can get down in Abu Khaireni and take another transport to head to Gorkha. It is approximately 30 KM, takes about an hour.
Local handicrafts, garments and locally grown oranges.
Simple local, western and chinese menu restaurant are available in Gorkha Bazaar and Manakamana. Local food stalls are available along the trekking route to Manaslu valley.
There is no restriction for any drink. Local wine, beer and "Raxi"(liquor)are available
Sleeping at the main Gorkha Bazaar is one option, but the better one is going more up to Satipipal Gorkha. Beautiful little edge of town with amazing views and just 10 min far from main bazaar.
Manakamana has many budget lodges with facilities such as TV, telephone and attached bathroom.
Be also carefully with your bill when you check out and controll it. Its probably the only hotel in nepal, what charge you 10% service for the room. Good Wifi in Restaurant.
on a beautiful spot. It is not at the main Bazaar, little more up, around 10 to 15 min walking from the Main Bus Park. Taking a taxi to there is about 200-250Rps. Local food and delicious homemade Pizza are there to eat and real org. coffee to drink. From here you get the best walking way to the King´s Palace through jungle and ruins. Go trekking to Pokhara or go to Kathmandu/Pokhara/Birjunj/Sonauli by bus/micro. Micro bus to Kathmandu costs 300 Rupess and takes around 4 hours. They drive every hour, last is at 15 p.m. You can buy the ticket at the ticket counters in the bus.
