Galilee (Rhode Island)
Galilee is a fishing and seaside village in Washington County (also known as South County) located in the town of Narragansett, Rhode Island. Galilee was found in 1902 and is home to many beaches, fishing charters, and restaurants and shops.
Galilee is well known for its two main public beaches Roger Wheeler and Salty Brine, the Point Judith Lighthouse and Fisherman’s Memorial Park
There are two main access roads in order to get into the village of Galilee. One of them is called Galilee Escape Road and is the busier and more direct way to enter the village by car. Just take a right on South 108 at the large water tower and follow the road all the way down until you approach a sign that says “Welcome to Galilee” Another way to enter by car is through Sand Hill Cove Road. This is the back entrance and will loop you around the village back out onto the Escape Road.
The RIPTA bus also makes frequent trips to Galilee. Take the RIPTA Route 66/URI & Galilee Route
Coming in at Point Judith in Galilee is the only main way to enter into Narragansett. One will enter by Great Island and will be able to continue down until Wakefield, RI. Just dock at one of the public docks
The easiest way to get around Galilee is by foot or bike. There is parking available in the state lots at a fee of $10 per day. Beach passes are also available for your cars to park at the state beaches. However, to really take in the beauty that Galilee has to offer, one must really take in the beauty by foot and walk the streets and beaches or park a bike at the many bike racks throughout the village
Fisherman's Memorial State Park, located at 1011 Point Judith Road (Rt 108). Horseshoe pits, tennis courts, basketball courts and other recreational opportunities are available at Fishermen's Memorial State
Point Judith Light House & US Coast Guard Station: located at 1470 Ocean Rd, The lighthouse is on the National Register for Historic Landmarks! There is free parking at the lighthouse and the views from the East Passage are unforgettable at sunrise and sunset! Bring some food to eat and bask in the views of Narragansett Bay, Newport RI, Block Island, and the southern coast of RI! Note: There are no tours of the lighthouse as it is next to the US Coast Guard Station which is active and government property. There are signs alerting people to stay away
Take a trip to one of two public state beaches located in Galilee. Each offers a pavilion with snack bars, showers, toilets, changing rooms, and educational activities for the children. Bask in the sun, take a swim in the ocean, and take in the sights of Southern Narragansett
