Fairfield is a town in Connecticut.

Fairfield Connecticut lies in the heart of Fairfield County and is considered a large town. Fairfield is 57.1 miles North of New York City. This town is also in close proximity to towns such as Westport, Trumbull, Easton and the city of Bridgeport. Fairfield is mainly known for its colleges, but it is also one of the nicest towns in Connecticut to live in. The public school system in town is excellent educationally as well as athletically. There are many youth programs in town including little league, pop Warner football and a variety of other options for kids to be active. Whether you're a kid or an adult Fairfield has much to offer you.

Get in[edit]

Fairfield has some of the most beautiful houses in all of Fairfield County. If you are not looking to take up permanent residence in Fairfield, there are a large number of beach houses that are available to rent for different days, weeks, or months all year round. There is a huge range of homes in Fairfield and this allows almost anyone to be able to afford to live here. From multi-million dollar mansions, to averagely priced houses, Fairfield has it all. With many options for renting, leasing or buying homes and condo's in town, there is a lot of potential for great living opportunities here.

Get around[edit]

Getting around Fairfield is not a problem, driving a car around town is very easy. When you don't feel like driving, walking through downtown Fairfield on the post road is very convenient and many things are accessible through walking in town. Black rock turnpike, which is another shopping center in town is accessible through walking as well. Black rock and the post road can get very busy during the day with traffic, but there are always side roads that anyone can use to beat the congestion. There is a bus system that runs through Fairfield and continues into other surrounding towns including Trumbull and Bridgeport and this is yet another way to get around town. Taxi's are also always available at the downtown train station by either calling for one or going to the place to get one. There is a second train station in town known as the Metro station. This newly added train station in town allows for less congestion and traffic at the original station and overall helps a lot of commuters as well as anyone else taking the train from Fairfield. The train station's are a part of the New haven line running North to New Haven and running South to grand central station in New York City. The ride to New Haven takes about 30 minutes, while the ride to New York can take anywhere from an hour to an hour and 45 minutes depending on how many stops are made. If taking the train isn't something you'd like to engage in, then using the two highways that run through town is yet another travel option. The Merritt Parkway is a 4 lane highway that runs right into New York and continues into the city Southbound from Fairfield and it runs North through New Haven until it merges with highway I-91. To get onto the Merrit in Fairfield you can use either exit 44 on Black Rock Turnpike, or Exit 46 on Jefferson Street. The other Highway in town is I-95 which has exits spread out periodically along the post road all the way until the other end of Black rock turnpike from where exit 44 on the Merrit Parkway is. These exits are 19-22 which are the downtown ones, while exits 23-25 are either on Black rock or in close proximity to it.

Fairfield lies right on the Long Island sound. When in Fairfield, it is very easy to get to any of the five beaches or lakes. They are:

    • Lake Mohegan (960 Morehouse Hwy)
    • Penfield Beach (323 Fairfield Beach Rd)
    • South Pine Creek Beach (1424 South Pine Creek Rd)
    • South Port Beach (1505 Pequot Ave)
    • Sasco Beach (1401 Sasco Hill Rd)

Do[edit][add listing]

It is very easy to get around downtown Fairfield on foot since many shops and restaurants are located in this area. Many people flock to Fairfield because there is a large array of local boutiques. People enjoy going to the beach not only in the summer, but in the winter as well because they enjoy taking walks along the water. Another reason to go to the beach in the winter is to walk your dog. In the summer dogs aren't allowed on the beach, but in the winter the beach becomes a playground for many dogs. There are two movie theaters in town. One is a Community theater that shows out of box office movies and is located right in the middle of downtown. The second one is a normal movie theater that has all the newest releases and is located right next to the metro train station. During the summertime, for a couple weeks Fairfield hosts a carnival that is located directly on Penfield beach. Also for the daring, there is a skate park that is open all year round by Fairfield beach as well. Finally, Fairfield University holds many big name concerts throughout the year for relatively low prices that anyone can attend. Fairfield is a very seasonal town with what it has to offer. Winters here are very cold most days and this causes a lot of people to stay at home by their fire places and stay warm, but during the summer months this town is vibrant with beautiful sights and there are plenty of things to do to keep one entertained and happy.

Buy[edit][add listing]

Fairfield is home to some of the best shopping. Fairfield has some major, well-known stores but also some unique boutiques that make this town truly special. It is not necessary to leave Fairfield in order to fulfill all of your shopping needs. From the downtown strip of shops to the blackrock turnpike shopping district, it has anything you need. If you do have to leave town to purchase something there is a very large mall in the neighboring town of Trumbull that is located directly off of exit 48 on the Merrit Parkway. Another great place to shop near Faifield is in Downtown Westport, which is another bordering town.

Eat[edit][add listing]

There are many restaurants and places to eat in Fairfield, so many that you'll never have to leave town to have an incredible meal. Located on the Post Road, in downtown Fairfield you can find a restaurant to satisfy whatever type of craving there is. If you are looking for a quick bite to eat, a fancy Italian dinner, or any other type of eating Fairfield has you covered. The food here in Fairfield is always fresh and made to order at these incredible eateries. Molto, Wild Rice, Mancusso's, Colony Grill and Pepe's Pizza are among some of the best restaurants in town that I have personally eaten at and I would recommend them to anyone who enjoys an excellent meal.

Drink[edit][add listing]

Fairfield has many nice bars, so you shouldn't be fooled by the close proximity of colleges. Many of the bars have the option of sitting and mingling outdoors. While this is not ideal in the winter time, during the summer it is very enjoyable. Some of the bars that Fairfield has are, Molto, 55 degrees, Colony Grill, Martel, Old Post Tavern, and My personal favorite South Port Brewery(SBC). The previous bars mentioned are all located in downtown Fairfield on the Post Rd and also double as fantastic restaurants. These aren't the only bars in town, but the post road is definitely the place to go for drinks.
