Euroa is a town in Victoria. Euroa town centre has good facilities for the traveler. Euroa has a slighly run down appearance, with the remnants of the roadhouses from before the town was standing desolate, next to somewhat poorly maintained parkland.

Get in[edit]

The town is just off the Hume Highway north of Seymour and south of Benalla. Once taking the freeway exit, you will need to turn again into the town centre. Watch for signs.

Strathbogie Ranges

The Hume freeway curves north from Melbourne once over the Great Dividing Range, along the base of stony hills and sunny moors. The Strathbogie Ranges end at a steep escarpment over the Goulburn River valley, where most of the remaining forests lie. The region has vineyards of many different sizes, particularly Chardonnay, Shiraz and Pinot. Most local producers can be found at the Ruffy Produce Store, in the hamlet of Ruffy at the centre of the hills. The local Aboriginal clan were the Yowung Illum Balluk, the 'stone dwelling people', members of the Taungurong tribe who lived throughout the upper Goulburn basin watershed. Rugged valleys, cold springs and high rocky outcrops mark the hills, which rise from around 400 metres high along their northern edge up to 800 metres in the south.

Travelling by road takes time and patience on varying grades of roads. A journey from Euroa to Seymour across the ranges takes two hours or more. Access from Euroa is easier than from other directions. North through Alexandra is the more direct route from Melbourne. The Hughes Creek gorge and the Seven Creeks gorge have campsites. Wildlife seems fairly abundant, drive with care (wallabies dent badly).
