Eastern Sudan is the region of Sudan lying to the east of Khartoum, along the Blue Nile.

Blue Nile[edit]

Blue Nile is a volatile area with many internally displaced persons. It is one of the sites of the SPLA-N's low intensity conflict with the Government of Sudan. In 2017, UMIS operated bases in Kurmuk, Ed Damazin and Dindiro. These three sites contain the regions only three airports.

Best to hire a coach that services are standard route. Don't go off road. There remains a serious mine risk.

Lingua francas are dialects of Sudanese Arabic and Berta language. Other local languages include Gaam (Ingessana) and Burun languages.

Most inhabitants are Muslim with varying degrees of observance.
