Get in[edit]

By Bus[edit]

Long distance Citylink [2] coaches from Glasgow, Fort William and Inverness to the Isle of Skye stop in Dornie, although you should tell the driver / wave at him to stop.

During the summer, frequent local buses operated by Stagecoach [3] run to and from Kyle of Lochalsh and Skye. These are substantially cheaper than the Citylink services.

By Train[edit]

Several trains a day run on the scenic railway from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh, from where you can catch a bus or coach (see above).

By Car[edit]

Get around[edit]

The village of Dornie is situated about 200m off the main road, and many visitors only go to the Castle on the other side of the road. It's only 5 minutes walk between the two.

  • Eilean Donan Castle - a real picture postcard castle, it sits on its own small island about 50m into Loch Duich, reached by crossing a stone bridge / causeway. Remodelled several times into an 'ideal' castle, it is well worth a visit, with some interesting rooms and exhibits.

  • Go hiking[4] - this is one of the best areas for walking in Scotland.
