Don Som is one of the islands of the 4000 Islands Si Phan Don in the far south of Laos in Champasak province. The islands has 11 villages and about 7,000 people are living on the island. Most people are farming and fishing for living.

Get in[edit]

You can reach the island by boat from Don Det, Don Khong and Ban Khinak. No roads on the island but the small paths give this island a very relaxed atmosphere and an ideal place for cycling or walking.

Get around[edit]

The island has not roads so you have to walk, cycle or ride on a motorbike to get around. No tuktuks.

There are some places where noodlesoup is sold in the villages. Don Som Riverside Guesthouse has a menu with mainly Lao food and a few more 'international' dishes. Also a Lao Cooking Class available on Don Som named 4000 Islands Cooking Class.

There is one guesthouse (Don Som Riverside Guesthouse) on the island in the village Ban Thamakheb on the eastern part of the island and they also organize cooking classes.
