Demre (former official name: Kale) is a town in Mediterranean Turkey. This is the town where St Nicholas ("real" Santa Claus) lived. Ancient name of the town is Myra.
Demre lies on the highway D400, which connects Fethiye in the west with Antalya in the east along the Lycian coast. Many buses running town to town on this highway connect Demre with Kalkan, Kaş, Finike, and Olympos among others.
Lycian Way, a way-marked hiking trail connecting Fethiye with Antalya, also passes through Myra, just north of Demre.
There is a small restaurant on the road from Demre to Kaş, maybe 10 km after Demre. The owner, Afir has his own house nearby with chickens and dogs. He is looking for a little help to run the restaurant, serve tea and coffee etc. You can stay with your tent or he can arrange rooms, there is a wonderful view on the sea where you can go for swimming in the morning and help at the restaurant for the night he said. He lives alone and is so friendly. Speaks little English, German and Turkish. He is bad with internet so call him at 0090 53813130167. Come/Call from Armelle and Raphael from France.
