Buses from Savannakhet (40,000 kip June. 2017) depart from Savannakhet bus station throughout the morning with the last one leaving Savannakhet at 12pm. Duration is approx. 5.5 hours.
From Vietnam, take a bus to Lao Bao where you will be dropped at the border and can walk through immigration. Mini van from Dong Ha will take approx 1.5 hours and will cost you 50,000 dong.
Densavan is a small border town. It is possible to walk from the border to the bus station in 20 minutes. Alternatively, taking a ride with a motorcycle should cost not much more than 10-15,000 kip.

Sepon River - it is possible to walk down to the river from the town.
Cross Vietnam-Lao border. Procedure is very easy and calm due to low passenger flow.
Most businesses in town will accept Lao kip or Vietnamese dong as well as USD.
There are ATMs available at the border dispensing Lao kip. You will easily be able to exchange money with vendors on both sides of the border for a reasonable rate.
There are a small number of restaurants in the town serving up Lao and Vietnamese food.
Bus station - rooms at the bus station will cost you 50,000 kip for the night.
Other (somewhat nicer) guesthouses in town are on the main street and should cost around 60,000 kip per night for a fan room with own bathroom.
To get to Vietnam, simply walk cross the border into Lao Bao where there are buses leaving to Hue and Danang. There are also minivans regularly leaving for Dong Ha where transfer is easy to other central Vietnam destinations.
Buses to Savannakhet leave throughout the morning with the last local bus leaving at 12pm.
It is possible to catch a sleeper bus stopping at Densavan for destinations Tha Khek and Vientiane.
If you are stuck for onwards transport, try to get a bus or other vehicle to take you to Seno in Savannakhet province where there are many onward connections to major Lao towns.
