Cuatro Vias is in La Guajira. It is more of a crossroad than a village.
Crossroad for local transportation situated in the desert.
If not with a tour, you will pass through here to go to Cabo de la Vela.
It is a necessary stop from the Troncal 90 to go North. It has nothing than a few food stalls and taxis.
From Santa Marta, Palomino, Riohacha or any other stop on the coast, take a bus to Maicao and ask to be stopped at Cuatro Vias to continue to Cabo de la Vela in the North and for San Juan del Sur in the south.
Buses are only going East and West from here.
If going North, two options:
If you are going South to Valledupar the only option is the shared taxi (20,000 COP). If you have the time, make a stop in San Juan del Cesar (15,000 COP) and visit the multiple natural pools on the rio Cesar.
The train going from the mines inland to the harbor on the coast.
If you wish to stop in Uribia, which is useful if you wanna buy cheap(er) water and fruits than in Cabo, pay max 5000 pesos to reach it and 20,000 more to Cabo.
Lots of food stalls, though none of them are really sanitary. If you're eating here, you better have good intestines.
Well it's a desert, so not much.
At your own risks, you might be able to find a place to put up a tent but it is not safe.
