Consett is easily accessible by bus from Durham or Newcastle and has connections to many amazing towns nearby such as Shotley Bridge, Leadgate, Blackhill and Delves Lane

Get around[edit]

Most of Consett can easily be accessed by foot, best still hire a bike if you want to explore further. The Derwent walk is highly recommended and can easily be accessed from Blackhill.

Consett is home to the Empire Theatre, one of County Durham's oldest theatres. Recently refurbished, the theatre stages variety acts, plays and a Christmas pantomime. The theatre also screens blockbuster films at times when there are no live performances.

  • Knitsley Mill, Knitsley. A fine pub set by it's very own airstrip! Tremendous food and drink and very pleasant surroundings in a small valley just outside Consett.

  • Derwent Manor Hotel. A few miles outside of Consett, but well worth the little travel as this hotel has pleasant views of the Derwent valley with a lot of atmosphere and excellent food & drink.
  • New hotel. Being constructed in 2017 is a new hotel in the heart of the recently developing Genesis area.
