Christmas celebrations, and especially Christmas food, reflect local cultures and traditions. This page lists various Christmas dishes from all around the world. Enjoy!


England Finland France
Roast beef, mashed potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy.
Liver casserole- traditional Finnish food that is eaten at Christmas.
Bûche de Noël- traditional dessert made from a rolled sponge cake.
Germany Italy Lithuania
Christstollen is a fruitcake with bits of candied fruits, raisins, walnuts and almonds and spices.
Panettone- a leavened sweet bread dotted with raisins.
Herring under fried carrots and onions.
Poland Spain Sweden
On Christmas Eve there are 12 dishes served, barszcz czerwony (beetrot soup) is one of them.
Seafood soup is very popular, especially in coastal regions.
Glögg (warm mulled wine) is a traditional drink during Christmas.

North America[edit]

Canada Guatemala Mexico
Tourtière(meat pies) are very popular during Christmas.
Tamales are popular among Guatemalan Christmas and New Year.
Chile en nogada made of meat-stuffed peppers covered in a creamy walnut sauce and a pomegranate seed garnish, giving it the three colors of the Mexican flag.
United States
Gingerbread, often in the form of a gingerbread house or gingerbread man.

South America[edit]

Argentina Brazil Chile
Vitel toné comes from the Italian immigration into Argentina and is a platter of sliced veal covered in a tuna sauce and capers.
Christmas are celebrated with a turkey feast with a marinade made from champagne and spices.
Cola de mono is Christmas beverage, with aguardiente, milk, coffee, and flavored with vanilla and cloves.
Colombia Peru Venezuela
Buñuelos - Colombian Christmas dishes are mostly sweets and desserts.
Despite the fact it’s summertime, hot chocolate (chocolatadas) is a favorite in Peru.
Hallacas- little packages of goodness stuffed with meat, capers, raisins, peppers and wrapped in maize and plantain leaves.


Japan Philippines
Kfc fried chicken- the popularity of this item at Christmas is such that orders are placed as much as two months in advance.
Bibinka- traditional dessert made with rice flour, sugar, clarified butter and coconut milk.


Australia New Zealand
Pavlova- dessert filled with whipped cream and fresh fruit.
Christmas mince pies.
