Wildlife Safari : There are 2 safaris possible from chikaldhara.
1. Chikaldhara Safari : INR 2,100 per Jeep (6 to 7 people). 2 - 2.5 hours. They take you through non forested area, mainly overlooking the scenic valleys. The booking has to be done in in the Sankul center near main market of Chikaldhara town.
2. Semadoh Safari with elephant Safari at Kolkas - This one takes you from Chikaldhara through a forested road to the town of Semadoh and onwards to a forest ranger sight at Kolkas. Although the ride from Chikaldhara to Semadoh was scenic, we couldn't see any animals (except monkey). The cost is INR 3,500 per Jeep (6 to 7 people) and it takes around 4 hours for the entire return trip. Keep in mind that the entire safari is though tar (pukka) road and not though trails. You can also do this safari in your own vehicle at a much lesser cost (around INR 350 for 6 people).
On reaching Kolkas, you can do an elephant safari costing INR 800 per elephant (4 people) and takes around 20 min. The elephant safari is not that good and elephants are just taken around a pre defined path. Again the chances of spotting any animal is absolutely zero. Kolkas also has accommodation facility.
