Chanderi is a city in Madhya Pradesh in India.

There are two major towns to get into Chanderi:

Lalitpur: Lalitpur is the nearest railway station to Chanderi, Lalitpur is a North Central Railway station of the Indian Railways.The town is at a distance of 40 kilometres from Chanderi. There are buses and taxis available from Lalitpur to Chanderi. Taxi should cost ~ Rs. 1000 for this 1 hour ride.

Jhansi: Jhansi is located at a distance of 110 kilometres from Chanderi. There is daily Uttar Pradesh State Transport bus service from Jhansi to Chanderi which leaves for Chanderi at 5.30 pm. The bus route is Lucknow-Jhansi-Chanderi. The same bus leaves Chanderi for Jhansi in the morning at 7 am. You can also take a taxi from Jhansi to Chanderi.

Chanderi sarees - a must buy from this town. While there are several saree stores in Chanderi, two recommended places to buy sarees are:

  • Bankas Vikas Sanstha (a self help group with an outlet in Chanderi town.
  • Pranpur Village, 3 km from Chanderi, where you can buy sarees directly from the weavers.
