Chakrata is a city in the Indian state of Uttarakhand.

There are chances of getting roads blocked for a couple of hours due to landslides but the scenic beauty of Chakrata during monsoons is worth it. Do carry raincoats.

Chakrata is a small hill station in Uttarkhand at 2118 metres above sea level. Chakrata does not have a railway station not and airport; the only way to reach Chakrata is by road.
Rail: The nearest railhead is Dehradun-92 km. Saharanpur, at 125 km is another major rail head.
Air: Jolly Grant Airport, serving Dehradun is about 115 km away. Alternately, Chandigarh Airport is 190 km away.
Road: Connected by a motorable road with Dehradun 92 kms, via Vikasnagar; Mussoorie 73 kms; and Saharanpur 122 kms. Chakrata is restricted for Foreign Tourists(except nationals of Bhutan and Nepal). Prior permission of competent authority (Inspector General, Special Frontier Force) is essential.

Once a cantonment town in British India. One look at Chakarata and it becomes clear that this place is blessed to be the eternal home of natural beauty. Virgin forests of conikrs, rhododendrons and oaks are best suited for long walks. Alongside these forests, picturesque villages of Jaunsari tribe compliments, and in the overpowering Kharamba peak (3084 mts.) Chakrata has its share of Alps too. On its northern slopes is situated Mundali (2776 mts.) where skiing is possible during Novemeber to April.
Mundoli : 35 kms from Kathyan, onwards Tuni, unfolds Mundoli. After trekking up the last 5 kms, ski slopes of Mundoli are everything a trekker or an enthusiast can wish for. Skiing in Mundoli is an experience only to be felt. Mundoli is easily accessible from Deoban (23 kms) by a jeepable road.
Tiger Fall : After a breathtaking easy journey of 20 kms from Chakrata, Tiger Fall is a water ballad with no equal. Falling gracefully from a height of 50 mts. Tiger Fall creates a small pond which renders an enchanting effect to the picturesque surroundings. Please be cautious of landslide as it may happen in any season (No board of landslide prone area). If you want to bath under this water fall don't go during the rainy season as the water flow is very high.
Kanasar : 26 kms, from Chakrata and 105 kms from Dehradun. Kanasar is perched on the Chakrata-Tiuni motorable road. Backdrop of towering peaks and dense rain forests, cuts out Kanasar as the idyllic retreat. The night halts are facilitated by the equally picturesque Forest Rest Houses.
Hanol : Located at an elevation of 1429 mts. Hanoi is 186 kms from Dehradun. This hamlet of a village is known in the region for a temple dedicated to Lord Mahasu.
Moigad Fall : 69 kms from Dehradun towards Yamunotri, is the serene and tranquil Moigad Fall. Located on the main Delhi-Yarnunotri road via Dehradun - Vikas Nagar. On the way to Yamunotri, one can bathe at the foot of the fall. which is a refreshing experience for all.
Deoban : 16 kms, away from Chakrata this place is surrounded by dense forests and lies at an altitude of 3025 mts. It provides a panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges. The roads that leads to Deoban is in a very deteriorated condition.
It is a place for those who want to spend some time in silence & see the beauty of the hills.
The main market in Chakrata has some eateries cum sweet shops, which serve adequate food, but limited in variety.
Forest Rest House and private hotels are available. Chakrata is restricted for Foreign Tourists, prior permission of competent authority is essential Hotel Snow view is one of the private hotels available for booking. This hotel promises British style cottages but the maintenance is bad. So, carry your own bedsheets, towels etc if you are going to stay at this place. The scenic view from this hotel is the saving grace. It is just 500m from Chakrata market.
Just 4 km away is a hotel "Hotel Hill Knights" with awesome view of the hills around. If you go further 3 kms you will find one more hotel name "Himalayan Paradise" All these hotels will come on your way to the Tiger Falls which is a must see place around chakrata.
