Calapan is a city on the island of Mindoro. It is the capital of the province of Oriental Mindoro, Philippines. Oriental Mindoro makes up the eastern side of Mindoro Island. The city has a population of approximately 124,000 as of 2010. Residence of the city are called Calapeños. There aren't many major tourist attractions in Calapan itself, but it acts as a gateway to many other cities in Mindoro. It has a major deep water port that is connected by frequent daily ferries to Bantangas and to a major highway running along the eastern side of Mindoro. This highway connects Calapan to Puerto Galera to the north, and Roxas and San Jose to the south.
Calapan is connected to Bantangas port. From Manila you can catch a bus directly to the Bantangas Port where you can connect to many destinations including Calapan. Large ferries that will go in almost all weather conditions ply this route multiple times a day between 6am and 9pm - please look up indivdual ferry websites for current schedules and up to date costs. Fairs for this journey range from $100 PHP on a smaller open air boat, to about $300 for an air conditioned closed fast boat. Cheaper ferries will take up to 3 hours to make the crossing while fast ferries can complete the trip in just over 1 hour.
By Bus / Van
There are regular vans running from San Jose & Roxas to Calapan. Vans (with AC) from San Jose cost $450 PHP per person in August 2016. Van's and Jeepneys also connect Calapan to Puerto Galera. As of August 2016 an air conditioned van cost $100 PHP and took about an hour to complete the trip, while a Jeepney cost $80 PHP and took about an hour and a half for the same trip. Both van's and Jeepney's to all destinations only leave when they are full. During high tourist season van's will be located just outside the Calapan Port to try and take tourists coming from Manil straight through to Puerto Galera.
The Calapan Airport (RPUK) is classified as a secondary airport and is used for general aviation handling mostly small planes and choppers with regular trips from Manila Domestic Airport. Please expand this section if you have additional information!
Tricycles are very common throughout the city and can be waved down just about anywhere. A ride within town will cost $20 PHP per person, no matter where you are going in town and no matter how many people are packed into the tricycle. If travelling with large luggage some drives may ask for an extra $5 to $10 pesos per piece of luggage, but if you only have one piece per person you can often find a driver who will not ask for any extra. These prices are current as of August 2016 (please continue to update this).

Vehicles are avalable for rent in the city. Ask at your accommodations if you want to rent a scooter by the day.
Roxas can be reached by van. From Roxas you can take a boat to Catalcan and then connect to Boracay.
