Bhadra Tiger Reserve
Bhadra Tiger Reserve also known as Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Chicmagalur district of Karnataka state in Bharat( India ).The Bhadra tiger reserve has forests with presence of wild animals like Tiger,Leopard,Elephant,Gaur (Indian Bison ) and many more. The name is derived from river Bhadra which flows through the tiger reserve. Bhadra river is tributary of Tungabhadra river. Tungabhadra river in turn is tributary of river Krishna.Bhadra Tiger reserve has two main areas Muthodi and Lakavalli. There are over 120 species of flora identified in Bhadra Tiger Reserve including a number of important medicinal plants. Some of the common floral species found here are Teak, Rosewood, Mathi, Honne, Nandi, Kindal etc. The major forest types existing in the sanctuary are Southern Moist Mixed Deciduous Forests, Southern Dry Mixed Deciduous Forests, and Semi-evergreen Forests. The wild life sanctuary has many entry points ,Check with authorities before entering the tiger reserve.
The Bhadra Tiger reserve ca be reached by road from towns of Shimoga or Bhadravathi or Chikkamagalore ( Chickmagaluru) or Tarikere. The nature camp at Muthodi run by Karnataka forest department can be accessed from Chickmagalur.The one at Lakkavalli can be reached from Shivamogga or Bhadravathi town or Tarikere.
The forest department conducts jungle safari in their own vehicles within the wildlife sanctuary.Timings and availability of seats must be confirmed from the respective office.

Enjoy the scene of lush green forest during rainy season (monsoon).Chirping of birds not usually found in urban areas.
Coffee powder grown locally in surrounding villages. Some spices like pepper,dalchini may be available.
Local food which consists of Steamed Rice,Saaru,Palya,Curd,Buttermilk,Happala,Uppinakai.

Homestays are offered where house owners from nearby villages rent their house to guests and some provide boarding facility also.
Do not enter forest without permission from Forest department of Karnataka. A local guide is highly recommended if you are trekking in these areas. Forest has many venomous snakes. Be alert and avoid talking loudly,shouting, making noise,use of cellular phones,lighting of fire and littering during the trek.If you are trekking carry torch,drinking water and food with you.Avoid wearing bright colours like Red,Yellow, White etc. during the trek or safari.
