Stay Safe[edit]

From the end of October through the middle of April, Battle Creek is frequently subjected to heavy lake-effect snow. These snowstorms can make driving nearly impossible and very dangerous. If you must drive during a winter storm, try to stick to the main roads. Some areas in the city are well maintained in winter and others do not get plowed at all. The temperature often drops below zero with windchill that throw the temperature to -30 degrees Fahrenheit. If you are visiting in winter, pack your parka! In summer, Battle Creek is subject to severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. When thunder roars, go indoors!

If you maintain a level of common sense, you will be perfectly safe in Battle Creek. With the exception of some neighborhoods the North and East portions of town, a man would be safe walking alone at night. Battle Creek is ranked as the 9th most dangerous city in America for women. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 19. Within Michigan, more than 98% of the communities have a lower crime rate than Battle Creek. In fact, after researching dangerous places to live, it was that found Battle Creek is one of the top 100 most dangerous cities in the U.S.A. That being said, exercise caution but, don't be overly paranoid. Use common sense and you'll be fine.
