Babol (Mazanderani:باوول ,Persian:بابل) is a city in the Caspian region of Iran, north-east of Tehran and about 30 kilometers far from Sari. It is the chief commercial centre of Mazandaran Province and was once the major trading center of northern Iran. The population is estimated at 204,878 as of 2005.
Founded in the 16th century, it was built on the site of the ancient city of Mamatir(mah mitra). Babol was formerly called Barforushdeh and Barforush afterwards.
Fights from all over the world to Tehran ( IRAN capital ) then from Tehran airports to Sari airport ( 50 min flight and then 50 km by car to BABOL ).
Also from Tehran ( IRAN capital city ) main train station to Quaemshahr train station ( 5 hours ) then half an hour from Quaemshahr to BABOL by car.
You can travel from Tehran to BABOL in 4/5 hours directly by car or bus ! ( It is the simplest way ).
The Old Bazaar ( Panjshanbe Bazaar ) and Amirkela's Jome Bazar are the main places for buying where rural people sell their homemade products. Also there are several malls like Shahriar,Yas,Pasaje Bozorg,Pasaje Ferdowsi where you can buy clothes, electronic devices and almost everything there.
Shami Baboli(Persian : شامی بابلی) is the first thing that you have to eat in Babol. Either you have local friends there that you can eat home made Shami Baboli or there is two places in Babol where have the best shami's including Shahshahani and Paridel.
If you are traveled to Babol in Moharam you can go to one of the Amirkela's Takeye for dinner and taste Shir Baze Pella for free, this is the food that you cant find anywhere else, even in Babol.
If you are in Mazandaran, you have to taste Kaii Pate and Kaii Pella, it is like a symbol for Mazadarani's people. Here is the list of some Mazandaran local foods that you cant eat them any where else: Peshte Zik. Naz Khatoon. Esfena Saak. Kerk Baperest.
As Babol's another name is Shahre Bahare Narenj(شهر بهار نارنج) and that means "City Of Orange blossom" you cant travel to Babol and never taste it unique orange blossom(Araghe Bahare Narenj : عرق بهار نارنج), you can find it in some local store.
