Awasa is next to a lake and is regarded as a resort town. It is also home to Hawassa university.

The better hotels also have some of the best restaurants in town.

  • Lewi's Resort, (By the lake). A good location right by the lake with good quality food (same as other Lewi's cafés in town). Watch the monkeys - they will often steal your food!  edit
  • Haile Resort, (By the lake north of town). Very good food in a clean and modern hotel restaurant. Service can be a little slow.  edit
  • Dolce, (South Western part of town). Italian restaurant offering good quality Italian fare.  edit

Drink[edit][add listing]

  • Bera Beer. A smart microbrewery in town. This is a popular drinking place - do not bother with the food.  edit
  • Terara Bar & Kitchen, 05 (Road to frish market (opposite Chambalala)), 0948051784. Great new bar in Hawassa - on the cobbled road towards the fish market and Amora Gedel. Nice comfy seats, good food, two TVs for sport, chilled vibe - not the usual loud music stopping all conversation.  edit

Sleep[edit][add listing]

Awasa has hotels of various standards. from the basic end up to the luxurious Haile Resort, by the lake. Lewi's Resort (not to be confused with a few other Lewi's hotels in town) is also by the lake. Rooms in the best hotels typically cost $50-70 per night. Many of the hotels have a few different locations, so if you are booking for Lewi's Resort by the lake, be careful that you are not booking one of the others.
