Avrankou (originally Avlankou) is a town in Southern Benin.
The origional is derived from Avlan (a famous plantain picker) and KOU (death in Gun language). Later, the French changed the name to its present as they found Avlankou difficult to pronounce.
There is a medium-sized market every five days, two days after Adjarra.
On the main highway when you enter Avrankou there is a large intersection with a statue where there is a nice outdoor bar and decent restaurant, as well as various street foods including grilled chicken. This area (more Adjarra) is also known for it’s pork.
