Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos [1] (IATA: ATH) is located about 41km outside the center of Athens. It operates since 2001, replacing the old International airport of Elliniko.


The Athens International Airport (ATH) consists of two terminals: the Main Terminal and a Satellite Terminal with boarding gates. The terminal building offers many facilities such as car rental and currency exchange facilities, ATM, duty-free shopping and restaurants. In the “Airports Council International - Europe “ of 2014 in Frankfurt, Athens International airport was awarded as “The best airport of Europe” and has also the “Eco-Innovative award” amongst others.

The airport is about 41km from the center of Athens, and by car should take less than 30 minutes from the center of Athens. Entering the Attica Tollway you should be prepared to have 2.80€ for the tolls, because it is the only way to the airport. If you need to take a taxi, you can call for one or find available taxis at the designated Taxi waiting area of your location. There is a flat rate from and to the airport which costs 35€ from the early morning to until midnight, and 50€ from midnight till morning.


There are four nus routes that connect with the airport. From the airport, you will find the bus station at the arrival level and from Athens it will leave you at the departure level. X95 takes you to the center of Athens with a route from the airport to Sintagma. X93 is needed especially if you need to take the Ktel service to other places in Greece, because the route ends at the Ktel station (long distance buses), Kifisos. X96 is the route Airport – Piraeus, needed if you have to go to the port of Piraeus. And X97 will take you to the metro station “Elliniko”.


You can access the airport via metro line3, “Agia Marina - Douk. Plakentias - Athens International Airport”. The ticket costs 10€ from /to the airport and 1.40€ is the general admission. The metro runs every 30 minutes from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. and lasts about 40 minutes.

Suburban Rail[edit]

The suburban rail, connects with the central railway of Athens, Lassiris Station, and depending on your destination, it can take you to Kiato, Piraeus – Athens – Halkida line and connects to the National Railway Athens – Thessaloniki – Alexandroupolis.

There are many car rental companies that you will find in the airport if you wish to make your own trip in Attica.

Parking policy[edit]

  • Short term Parking- The short term parking is located at the level of the Arrivals, 1.360 parking spaces. If you stay for less than 20 minutes, the parking is free of charge.
  • Long term Parking- The long term parking is across the airport`s main access road with 5,800 parking spaces. To access the airport, the best way is to use the Shuttle bus which is free of charge.
  • Εxecutive valet Parking- This services provides the facilitation to drive till the Departures level and hand the keys to the personnel which will park your car and deliver it back at the date and time that you will specify.
  • Disabled persons & persons with reduced mobility- There are dedicated parking spaces in the same pricing policy at both long term and short term parkings.

For motorcycles, there are free parking spaces available at the arrivals.

The only hotel available just across the main airport terminal is Sofitel Athens Airport 5*. It was awarded as the “Team of the year 2011: Customer service – Front Line”.

Sofitel has 345 soundproof rooms. 2 executive floors, 13 suites, 11 meeting rooms, fitness center with indoor pool and sauna and 2 restaurants, with Mediterranean cuisine and French gourmet international cuisine.

The service of Wi-Fi is available in the Athens International Airport is free. Every 45 minutes you just need to reconnect for free, if you wish to have more services you can buy the service “ATH Premium Wi-Fi”.
