Athens : Pangrati and Mets
Pangrati and Mets are adjoining neighborhoods in Athens south of Kolonaki and east of the National Garden.
There are many busses from Syntagma or take the blue metro line to Evangelimsos, from there its 15 minutes by walk.
The main attraction of Mets is the Panathenaic Stadium, also called Kallimarmaro (white marble) because this is the material made of.
In the area there is also the 1th Athens Cementary, one of the biggest cementary in Greece with a lot of famous graves.
The neighborhood offers many restaurants which haven't yet been overrun with tourists.
- Anatolitiki Kebap, cnr of Formionos and Ymmitou, Pangrati. Neighborhood taverna offering kebaps (Aaatolian and Armenian style), chicken gyros (gyro koutopoulo), other wonderful foods from Ottoman cooking. The Giaourtlou Kebap is a unique dish originating in Turkey, it is a must try at this restaurant. The owner goes weekly to buy the freshest Dodoni feta from Preveza. The horiatiki salads are worth the visit! edit

A severely traditional taverna where the speciality is stamnaki, or beef, potatoes and cheese cooked in tomato sauce in an individual clay pot. The fried zucchini here are also always good. Mostly patronized by Greeks, but there is an English-language menu. edit

Renovated in 2004 with a lovely terrace bar and pool, 3 restaurants with view of the Lycabetus hill, and very accommodating personnel. The hotel is in an ideal location for catching the bus or the metro for the north suburbs of the city. €80 double bed room. edit
